The 5 C’s of Going for Gold

Following the announcement of Builder Town Hall as this year’s Gold Award Winner for the Best Professional Development Series, we decided to dive deeper into what makes a successful award winner.

We invited a panel of distinguished guests to join us in the March session of Town Hall to give insight on how to most effectively go for the gold. We were joined by Lisa Parrish of Team PMP, Rachel Starratt of Red Door Homes Carolinas, Gina Nixon of Thomas James Homes, Kerry Mulcrone of Kerry and Co., and Angela McKay of ONeil Interactive. These distinguished industry experts shared what patterns and habits they’ve recognized in gold award winners—past and present—and offered insight into how to best implement these practices into your daily habits.

The 5 C’s

1. Community

Above all, a gold winner must establish a culture of community on all fronts of their business. This sense of community should not only be confined to administrative personnel, but should extend toward all those involved along the way. Your trades partners, realtors, and buyers should all feel a sense of belonging when working with you.

In order to achieve the gold, we must create trust within our companies so that it can be reflected in the way we approach our buyers. An award winning team is one filled with genuine passion for excellence, pride, and building long-lasting relationships.

2. Creativity

Gold winners are constantly on the hunt for what’s new and exciting. Because there are so many entries in competitions such as this, judges will gravitate toward what stands out in the sea of sameness.

Successful entries are those that find great solutions to manage the most prominent problems the industry is facing. Finding unique ways to manage all that is overwhelming us is the best path toward a gold award.

3. Clarity

You’re already an expert at selling homes, and now it’s time to sell yourself. In addition to being creative, you must also be clear.

Everything is subjective. Providing metrics and details that support how and why your entry is effective is key to pushing your entry the extra mile to bring home the gold. When you invest time into your submission and clearly explain what you were trying to accomplish with quantifiable results, the judges are more likely to see the value in all that you’ve achieved.

4. Customer Experience

At the end of the day, we aren’t just in the homebuilding business, we are in the people business. We strive to connect people with their dream homes so they can live their lives the way they want to. Successful gold winners make an intentional effort to make decisions based on the overall customer experience.

In the current market, many customers will first enter the experience through an online interaction. As soon as they sign up on your website, they become your customer. Once this connection has been made, it’s important to assume that a relationship exists.

Gold winners stand apart from the crowd because they invest the time to carefully foster each of these relationships and urge them forward. If you don’t maintain quality contact the URL experience will never transition to an IRL experience.

5. Consistency

In the end, it all boils down to a matter of consistency. In order to go for the gold, you must remain consistent with your practices, mission, and brand. Consistency breeds excellence.

Establishing a concise, memorable mission statement helps to weave this brand into the fabric of your organization. When people know what they are working to accomplish, they are more likely to take pride in it. Diligence to your brand guidelines creates a clean, consistent, professional image that sets gold award winners apart.

Going for the gold isn’t an easy task, but it’s one worth fighting for. In addition to the title, you’ll also obtain a new level of excellence across your organization that customers will notice. Contact us to learn more, or join us for future Builder Town Halls for more insight.
